Retail plays a critical role in how museums, zoos, aquariums, and other cultural institutions extend the guest experience and generate revenue. But managing busy gift shops, large inventories, and seasonal visitor surges can create operational challenges for teams already balancing multiple responsibilities.
Cinchio’s new retail kiosk was designed to help solve that.
The self-service kiosk allows guests to purchase merchandise quickly while giving operators better visibility into inventory, sales, and retail performance across their venue. Built specifically for cultural institutions, the kiosk helps teams move guests through stores faster while reducing pressure on staff during peak attendance periods.
Retail environments at cultural venues often involve hundreds or even thousands of SKUs, with products changing frequently throughout the year. Cinchio’s retail kiosk simplifies how merchandise is sold and managed by keeping product availability, pricing, and reporting connected in real time.
Through a direct two-way integration with Yellow Dog Inventory, inventory data stays synchronized between retail operations and the kiosk interface. When items are updated in the inventory system, those changes are automatically reflected in the kiosk experience. This reduces manual product updates while ensuring guests only see items that are currently available.
“Retail plays an important role in how cultural institutions generate revenue and extend the guest experience,” said Ryan Brandt, VP of Operations at Cinchio. “But managing large inventories and high visitor volumes can create operational challenges. Our retail kiosk helps teams serve guests faster while keeping inventory, sales, and reporting connected behind the scenes.”
The kiosk also connects to the broader Cinchio platform, allowing institutions to see retail activity alongside food and beverage POS sales, F&B digital ordering, and other services. Instead of reviewing separate reports from different systems, operators can understand how retail fits into the overall performance of their venue.
By bringing retail into the same connected platform as other hospitality operations, cultural institutions gain clearer insight into revenue trends, product performance, and guest purchasing behavior.
